How It Works
We use high quality deep freezers as the mechanism for both cooling the water as well as acting as the tub. Each freezer is waterproofed by hand, as we meticulously prepare and sand down the surface correctly, and then apply 100% waterproof, 6,000 PSI strength marine-grade sealants over the prepped seams. The process waterproofs the unit and ensures the water stays in the tub and does not enter the interior of the freezer.
Step 1: Waterproofing

At Zen Freeze, we know the power of deliberate cold water exposure, which is why we dedicated ourselves to building affordable cold plunges for all. Rather than using a tub with an external chiller unit, which is expensive, not energy efficient, and space-consuming, we implement a better way to get cold, clear water whenever you want it.

Step 2: Temperature Control
We then equip each unit with a temperature thermostat, which the freezer plugs into. Simply place the temperature probe in the water, plug the freezer plug into the "cooling" outlet of the thermostat, plug the thermostat plug into the GFCI extension cord provided, and plug this cord into the wall. Now let the technology do the work of auto cooling.
To set your desired water temp, click and hold "set" until the numbers flash, then use the arrows up or down to program your temperature. The thermostat will identify the current water temperature, and will automatically turn the freezer on until it reaches the desired temperature that you set on the device. Once it reaches this temperature, the controller will automatically turn the freezer off until the water slowly warms back up over time, and then this process repeats. In this way, the ice bath will maintain whatever water temperature you desire 100% automatically, with no effort, and with very little energy needs.

Each unit comes with a large, waterproof, submersible aquarium pump that filters the water and keeps it circulating. Simply place this on the floor of your tub and the pump will filter 290 gallons of water per hour, filtering out any particles or hair that accrue over your usage, and maintaining water cleanliness for longer.

Each month, simply remove the mesh filter inside the pump, rinse off any obvious debris, and then soak it in a 7:1 water to bleach solution overnight. The next morning, rinse with water and then place it back in the pump to continue filtering. This can be done dozens of times before needing a replacement filter.
Step 3: Water Filtration

In addition to the filter pump, each unit also comes with an o-zone generator and a timer for automatic nightly water sanitation. O-zone is one of the most effective non-chemical disinfectants, and running this device for just 30 minutes every night will maintain clean, clear, water for many months at a time.

Either turn the knob to have it run when you won't be around it, or plug it in the timer. Simply plug the o-zone machine cord into the timer, and plug the timer into the GFCI extension cord. Type in what time you want the device to clean your water in the "on" and "off" time slots of the timer. Each device comes pre-programmed to run between 2:00-2:30AM PST, but set whatever time you will not be around the device. Leave the o-zone tube in the water, and allow the o-zone machine to run for 30 minutes every night when you are not using it. That's it! Your water will stay clean for months without any additional maintenance.
Step 4: Water Sanitization

We have taken every precaution to make this product as safe as possible. Every piece of equipment, including the freezer, temperature controller, the filter pump, timer, and O-zone generator all plug into the master GFCI extension cord we provide, that you then plug into the wall outlet.
This "Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor" or "GFCI" cord is a fast-acting circuit breaker that is designed to automatically shut off all electric power in the event of a ground-fault within as little as 1/30th of a second. Even with this safety measure in place, we simply advise users to hit the GFCI's power switch off before hopping in for further peace of mind, and then simply switching it back once finished. How Much Power Does it use?
It runs on a standard 110 V outlet and draws less than 3 amps, so there's no dedicated circuit needed. All plugs plug into the GFCI cord which can plug into a standard outlet.
How Safe is it to Operate?
We follow industry safety standards. Each Zen Freeze cold plunge comes with self-testing GFCI, surge protection, UL certified cords, and an on/off power switch.
Do I Need to Unplug it?
No, there is a conveniently located power button on the included GFCI cable that will shut off power to the entire system. Simply push this button off before entering and press back on when finished.
Can I Use it Indoors and Outdoors?
Yes it can be used indoors or outdoors, covered. The unit's exterior is water resistant and UV resistant, but if leaving it outdoors be sure to cover it in the event of heavy rain/flooding. Additionally it is ideal to keep out of direct sun for hours on end.
What is the Refurbished Option?
Our Refurbished option is our most ecologically-driven and price-sensitive model option, as we recycle and refurbish gently used deep freezers that are clean and fully operational, and convert them into fully-functioning cold plunges. They are waterproofed using the same rigorous methods and materials, and come with all the same accessories as a new unit.
What Accessories does it Come with?
Each cold plunge tub comes with a submersible circulation pump, o-zone generator and automatic timer, programmable temperature thermostat, GFCI outlet extension, water debris skimmer, draining/filling pump and hose, wooden bath mat, and comprehensive setup guide.
How do I Fill it?
You can fill it with a garden house. If indoors, you can fill it from a tub by placing the submersible pump we include into the watery tub, and letting the water flow into the nearby cold plunge (within 25 feet).
How do I Drain it?
We provide a submersible pump and tubing that allows you to drain it easily within 25 feet. Simply place the sump pump into the cold plunge with the attached tube, place the end of the tube where you want the water drained to, and plug the pump into an outlet.
Is it Easy to Move?
Yes — it's light enough for most people to move with a friend or a furniture dolly. Depending on the size you order, the empty weight ranges between 140 and 180 pounds.
How Long Does it Take to Cool Down?
The first cooldown takes about 12–24 hours, lowering at about 1 degree per hour. After that, the compressor-based chiller maintains your set temperature on a daily basis automatically.
